Review: The Renegades Series by Skye Jordan

I don’t usually review the steamy stuff, but I need to make you fans of contemporary romance aware of the Renegades by Skye Jordan.  In my opinion, this is a fresh take on the genre, blending romance with humor, action, memorable characters and unexpected moments into a really great love story.

Book One in the series is FREE, so download a copy and take the series out for a spin.  It’s a steal considering the awesome texting scene in the airport and the surprising, exciting ending.

Below is the info about the books & some quick thoughts on why I think these character driven stories are much better than your average romance:

RecklessBlurb for Book One: Reckless:

A couture wedding dress designer to the rich and famous, Lexi LaCroix’s image means everything. Raised on the wrong side of the tracks, her years of polish and hard work are finally about to pay off. But crossing paths with a sexier-than-sin, bad-boy biker who makes her realize how much living she’s sacrificed for her success, one touch is all it takes to threaten her carefully choreographed life.

Jax Chamberlin has been screwed over by gorgeous gold-diggers one too many times. Though he runs his own stunt company, all of America knows his Hollywood face even years after he’s given up acting. Finding a woman who doesn’t plan to use him as a stepping stone to success is virtually impossible, so when the charming and mysterious Lexi offers him a chance at a totally anonymous hook-up during an out of town trip, Jax accepts. Only Lexi is more sextacular than charming, and Jax wants more. Lots more.

But Lexi’s got a major hang-up over his renegade lifestyle. And if she finds out his connections could catapult her to the top of her career, he’s afraid the fantasy woman he’s falling for might just end up like all the rest.

Jax Chamberlin is a stuntman and stunt coordinator, and I really enjoyed this profession depicted in the story.  In a genre full of  athletes, soldiers, firemen, bikers, tattoo artists, etc, this is a refreshing change from the norm.  Don’t get me wrong: I enjoy the athletes, soldiers, firemen, bikers, tattoo artists, etc.  But adrenaline junkies that do stunts for Hollywood blockbusters?! It’s awesome.

Speaking of awesome, Lexi and her BFF Rubi are so fun to read.  Hilarious dialogue, candid heart to hearts and both women have impressive careers… I kept finding myself smiling when reading their conversations.   Same goes for the interactions between Lexi and Jax.  They are fun and flirty, but not without conflict.  They have to overcome personal and professional obstacles to make their relationship work.

RebelBlurb for Book Two: Rebel:

Sassy, smart, and sexy, former supermodel-turned-tech guru Rubi Russo has it all—looks, money, confidence and freedom. Her life is a whirlwind of fast cars and fleeting affairs—and she likes it that way. With a past like Rubi’s, forever isn’t part of her vocabulary. So when studly Renegade stuntman Wes Lawson wants to take their friendship to the next level, she’s all out.

Raised a simple country-boy, Wes knows the brazen Rubi isn’t his type. But after spending time with her, he discovers she’s everything he’s ever wanted in a woman. To win her wild rebel heart, he’ll have to prove he sees behind her smokescreen to all the goodness she tries to hide. Then it’s just a matter of crushing her fears, shattering her barriers, and convincing her that loving him is everything she’s been missing in her life, too.

Piece of cake.

This is the classic story of opposites attracting.

In Reckless, there is plenty of chemistry between Rubi and Wes.  In Rebel, that flirtation becomes more.  It takes a while for Rubi to lower the walls she has built around herself to let Wes in.  There is A LOT of sexy time between the two, so if you like your romances steamy: this book is for you.  The witty, funny dialogue that I enjoyed so much in Book 1 is here as well.  There is also action, behind the scenes of choreographing a movie stunt, and more insight into the Renegades crew.  There is a wonderful cast of characters, and their interactions are funny, surprising, authentic and (in my opinion) very entertaining.

RicochetBlurb for Book Three: Ricochet

After a tragic incident in Afghanistan leaves Master Sergeant Nathan Ryker the only man standing in his tight-knit team, he spirals into an alcohol-and-sex induced escape. A call from his lifelong buddy pulls Ryker from the shadows with a request for help with his stunt company’s latest blockbuster. If Ryker can survive the next three weeks of leave and get back to his remaining men, he might just be all right. But a sexy woman who can take his mind off his trauma is too hard to resist, and when he hooks up with Renegades’ sultry, snarky office manager, his sanity takes a backseat to his first glimpse of a future he isn’t sure he deserves.

Still reeling from a bitter romantic betrayal, Rachel Hart wants nothing more than an uncomplicated hookup. So when the mysterious Nathan seduces her with a little dirty talk and one delicious kiss, Rachel drowns all her good sense in a Mandarin and soda and gives herself over to a night of sexual bliss. But her memories tarnish in the morning light when Rachel discovers his real identity and his link to Renegades. Her job and her friends are the only thing holding her life together, and she won’t be ruined by one sultry night with this damaged and dangerously sexy man.

review1This book was just released last week & it already has over 50 4 & 5 star reviews on Amazon.

I just finished reading it and liked it so much I felt the need write this post about the whole series.  If you like books 1 and 2, you will LOVE book 3.  Rachel is a spitfire, and she keeps the Renegades in line and under budget.  She constantly takes care of people and problems, but she needs someone to take care of her.  Nathan wants to do just that, but he has his own personal demons to tackle first. The plot is fast paced and well developed, and as always, the characters are driving the story.  There is a depth to the plot that the previous books did not have, and it was so much more than “just” a romance.  LOVED IT.
