#MustRead: Sunshine & Whiskey by R.L. Griffin

Sometimes the best things in life come from the unexpected. So if you lower your expectations, then you’ll never be disappointed. Sound cheesy? It is, but it’s also true. Clichés come from a grain of truth…like a man with a Porsche is compensating for something, or once a cheater always a cheater—you get the idea. Sorry, I digress. I’m supposed to be telling you what this book is about. I’m Megan Walker, a lawyer at one of the hottest boutique law firms in Atlanta. I’m on the fast track to making partner and have my entire life planned out…or I did. We all know how that goes, right? Best laid plans and all that. Life just threw me a couple curveballs, so I’ve set out to take things into my own hands. By throwing caution to the wind and getting out of my A-type personality bubble, I’m learning more about myself than I have in my twenty-seven years. Sound like a chick flick, doesn’t it? It’s not.

Hi Book Beacon Readers!  This is Kris’ friend Courtney.  She has kindly invited me to write a review of this excellent, fun, and HILARIOUS book, Sunshine and Whiskey.  I originally heard about it on Natasha Boyd’s Facebook page.  (She is the one who wrote the amazingly fabulous Eversea)  I’m so happy she posted about it, since it has become one of my favorite books EVER.  And I have read many books in multiple genres.  This one stands out because A) I totally related to Megan, the protagonist B) I felt like I was with her and Laura on their “epic road trip” and C) I laughed out loud so much and so hard that my gut hurt and tears were streaming down my face.

Ms. Griffin was able to completely immerse me in Megan’s world and tell the story in a fast-paced and seamless way from start to finish.  There were ridiculous scenes, hilarious banter, and steamy encounters with hotties, but also poignant conversations and tender moments to balance it out.  It’s got everything!  (including lots of F-bombs, FYI)  I can’t wait until the next book, which tells Laura’s story, is out and ready for me to devour.  Happy reading!
